Hurricane Watchers Track Tropical Wave’s Path in Atlantic Ocean

As the 2025 hurricane season progresses, forecasters are closely monitoring a tropical wave in the Atlantic Ocean. This wave, designated as Invest 95L (AL95), is characterized by a broad area of low pressure that has increased chances of evolving into a tropical cyclone.

Hurricane Wave Monitoring in the Atlantic Ocean

On October 5, the National Hurricane Center reported that Invest 95L has a 40% probability of developing over the next 48 hours. This probability rises to 70% within the next seven days. The system is expected to approach the Leeward Islands by the end of this week.

The area of low pressure is currently producing unorganized thunderstorms and showers several hundred miles south-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. The forecast indicates favorable environmental conditions that could lead to the formation of a tropical depression this week as the wave progresses across the central tropical Atlantic.

Status of Other Weather Systems

  • Forecasters are also tracking a weak low-pressure area over the north-central Gulf.
  • This system is generating showers and thunderstorms near the coasts of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama.
  • Development is not anticipated due to strong upper-level winds and interactions with land.

As of now, the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, which lasts from June 1 to November 30, has recorded several hurricanes and tropical storms, but none have made landfall. The peak period of activity typically occurs from August to October.

Potential Tropical Storm Formation

If another system develops into a tropical storm, it will be named Jerry, as it is next on the naming list for the 2025 season. Meanwhile, in the Pacific, Tropical Storm Priscilla formed on October 4 and is expected to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to coastal areas of southwestern Mexico.

On October 5, Priscilla’s sustained winds were reported near 70 mph, with forecasts suggesting potential strengthening into a hurricane later that day.

Preparedness Tips for Hurricane Season

With the hurricane season well underway, preparedness is crucial. Here are essential steps you can take:

  • Assemble Disaster Supplies: Gather sufficient supplies for sheltering in place or evacuation.
  • Insurance Checkup: Contact your insurance agent to ensure that you have adequate coverage, especially for flood damage.
  • Evacuation Plan: Develop a clear evacuation plan that includes evacuation routes and meeting points for your family.
  • Family Communication Plan: Make sure all family members understand the plan and know where to meet.
  • Strengthen Your Home: Prepare your home by trimming trees, installing storm shutters, and sealing outside openings.

By taking these proactive steps, you can enhance your safety and readiness as the season continues. Stay informed and vigilant as the situation evolves.
