Man Charged for Drinking in Parked Car in Kanata

On April 4, Ottawa police were alerted to a situation involving a man drinking alcohol in his vehicle in a Kanata parking lot. The incident took place at a parking area off Eagleson Road around 4:26 p.m.
Upon the officer’s arrival, the man attempted to flee the scene. However, officers swiftly tracked him down to a nearby industrial zone, where they successfully stopped his vehicle and made an arrest.
Charges Filed Against the Suspect
The man now faces multiple charges, including:
- Flight from a peace officer
- Impaired operation of a conveyance
- Operation of a conveyance exceeding 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood
- Dangerous operation of a conveyance
Rising Impaired Driving Concerns
This incident highlights a concerning trend in Ottawa. Recent data from the police indicates a significant rise in impaired driving incidents in the city. As of March 30, a total of 56 collisions involving impaired drivers have been reported.
This marks a 27 percent increase in crashes involving drugs or alcohol compared to the previous year. In response, local law enforcement has executed 17 campaigns focused on reducing impaired driving.
Campaign Outcomes
These initiatives led to 30 individuals being charged and removed from the roads. The continuing rise in impaired driving incidents emphasizes the need for ongoing community awareness and preventative measures.
