Răzvan Lucescu Blocks Attendance at Mircea Lucescu’s Funeral

The legendary Romanian football figure, Mircea Lucescu, passed away on April 7, 2026. His body is currently laid to rest at the National Arena in Bucharest, where public visitation began on April 8 and will continue through April 9. The funeral service is scheduled for Friday, April 10, at Bellu Cemetery in Bucharest.

In a significant decision, Răzvan Lucescu, the son of the late Mircea Lucescu and coach of Greek club PAOK, chose to prevent his players from attending the funeral. The team will instead focus on maintaining their training schedule in Thessaloniki.
Despite the emotional weight of the occasion, Răzvan has prioritized the team’s preparation for upcoming matches. According to reports, he stated that “the training will proceed as planned on Great Friday, and the players will not attend the funeral.”

Although the PAOK squad will stay in Greece, a small delegation of three members will travel to Bucharest to honor Mircea Lucescu and support Răzvan during this difficult time.
