Jürgen Klopp Describes Coaching Stress: “The Pressure Was Ridiculous”

Jürgen Klopp, the renowned football manager, has stepped away from his role as a head coach. Currently, he serves as the Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull. In a recent interview, Klopp opened up about the immense pressure he experienced during his coaching career.

Klopp’s Experience with Coaching Pressure

Klopp shared his feelings about coaching stress on the TV2 program “Bjørndalen trener Klopp.” He recalled, “Every time I sat in the bus on the way to the stadium, my chest would tighten.” He reflected on this experience, stating, “I have done this at least 1,081 times. Why would I want to do it 1,090 times?”

The Impact of Coaching Stress

Klopp highlighted that the pressure he placed on himself was overwhelming. He admitted it reached an unbearable level, particularly towards the end of his tenure at Liverpool. “The batteries were completely drained,” he noted.

A Shift to a New Role

Despite his struggles with stress, Klopp is finding fulfillment in his current position at Red Bull. He expressed that he enjoys his new role more than any previous coaching position. “I work a lot and want to work. The difference is that I can work for three days and then have four days off,” he explained.

  • Position: Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull
  • Coaching Experience: Over 1,081 matches
  • Current Work Schedule: 3 days on, 4 days off

Klopp concluded by saying, “I wasn’t born to not work, but I needed to find a way to extract something different from life.” His transition has allowed him to maintain a healthier work-life balance.
