Harry Redknapp, the legendary football manager, recently expressed concerns about his wife Sandra’s health as he prepares to participate in the upcoming season of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here… in South Africa. This will mark Redknapp’s return to the jungle, where he previously won the competition in 2018.
Sandra’s Health Challenges
The couple faced significant health challenges in the past, particularly when Sandra contracted sepsis shortly before Harry’s 2018 appearance on the show. Sepsis is a severe condition that occurs when the body has an extreme response to an infection, which can be life-threatening.
Harry revealed how close he came to withdrawing from the show due to Sandra’s health. He stated, “What made it worse was just before I went on the show, Sandra had sepsis and was really ill, so I wasn’t going to go, you know.” He further recalled, “I was terrified I was going to lose her and I nearly didn’t get on the plane.”
Emotional Moments in the Jungle
During his previous stint on the show, Redknapp became emotional upon seeing Sandra after she was allowed to visit him in the jungle. He reflected that the moment was overwhelming and one that he will always remember as it was the first time she had seen him cry.
Recent Health Scares
In 2022, the couple faced another scare when Sandra experienced breathing difficulties post-COVID-19. Harry expressed his worries during that period, saying, “The symptoms weren’t good, if I’m truthful. You start to think about all kinds of sinister things.”
Sandra, discussing her struggles, shared, “You don’t realize what your vocal cords do until they’re not working, because it affects breathing as well as talking.”
Enduring Love and Family
Harry and Sandra first met in 1963, during a date at the Two Puddings pub in East London. They tied the knot at St Margaret’s Parish Church in Barking in June 1968. Together, they have two sons: Jamie, a former Liverpool and Spurs midfielder, and Mark.
Reflecting on their longstanding relationship, Harry said, “Even when I’m out, I ring her ten times a day. She’s my life. I do love her too much; if anything happened, it would just kill me.”
