In Brampton, a tragic shooting incident left two individuals dead, including a youth. The shooting occurred on school grounds late Friday night, with Peel Regional Police confirming that the event was targeted.

Police received reports of gunfire in the Rutherford Road and Weybridge Trail area at approximately 10:23 p.m. A press briefing on Saturday revealed that the shooting followed an altercation involving multiple individuals. Media officer Laurie McCann stated, “There was some sort of altercation that occurred on the school grounds with several individuals, following that, a firearm or firearms were discharged, and two victims were hit.”

Victims Identified

  • One victim was a male in his 20s.
  • The second victim was a youth.

Both victims were declared dead at the scene. While one of the victims attempted to escape, he collapsed a short distance away. Authorities confirmed that the suspects managed to flee the scene before the police arrived, although it remains unclear whether they escaped on foot or by vehicle.

Following the incident, residents of the neighborhood expressed their concerns. Jeff Weaver, a local resident, described witnessing a heavy police response, stating, “I noticed my shed door had been opened. It’s something you just don’t see every day, but Brampton is certainly changing.”

Another resident, John Salazar, expressed unease about the shooting location, particularly near St. Joachim Elementary School. He noted, “The neighborhood has changed a lot in the past couple of months and years, and it kind of scares me.”
