Streep noted, “Twenty years ago, it was categorized as a ‘chick flick,’ and that designation has kind of not worn well.”

Streep pointed out that films with female leads are now receiving more recognition and financial backing. She mentioned shifts in perceptions following successful films like Barbie and Mamma Mia!, which surprised studios with their box office success. Streep recalled, “We had to scrabble for our budget…. This one, honey, they spent the money.”
