Metrotown Reflects on 40-Year Legacy Anniversary

Metropolis at Metrotown is celebrating a remarkable milestone this year. The iconic shopping destination is marking its 40-year legacy with a two-month anniversary event. This celebration runs from April 13 to June 14, featuring a variety of installations and activities that reflect its rich history.
Anniversary Celebrations and Activities
The “40 Years at the Met” festivities aim to evoke nostalgic memories for visitors. Central to this celebration are immersive exhibits highlighting four decades of mall culture. Some key attractions include:
- Infinity Room: A unique mirrored space designed for photo opportunities.
- Interactive Message Wall: Shoppers can share their personal milestones related to the mall.
- Nostalgic Displays: Retro-inspired decorations referencing iconic spots like the now-closed Rainforest Cafe.
The mall’s atmosphere will be enhanced by spring-themed decor, including floral arrangements and disco balls, particularly noticeable in the Grand Court’s LOVE installation.
Shopping Promotions and Events
Numerous shopping incentives are also planned throughout the anniversary. Some highlights include:
- Opening Day Promotion: Customers can receive a $20 Met reward with a minimum purchase of $200.
- DJ Dance Parties: Scheduled for April 25 and closing events on June 14, keeping the festive mood alive.
- Additional Activities: A flower market and DIY charm accessory events planned during the celebration.
On June 13, a unique Korean lifestyle pop-up will also take place, alongside a TransLink merchandise pop-up in late May and early June, underlining the mall’s role as a key transit-oriented hub.
Community Engagement and Support
This anniversary is not just for celebration; it includes a focus on community support. For every spend-and-get reward redeemed, Metropolis at Metrotown will donate $5, up to a total of $5,000, to the Burnaby Neighbourhood House’s Food Hubs programs. This initiative ties the celebration to local food security efforts, strengthening community bonds.
Marketing manager Amanda Chung expressed her pride in reaching this 40-year milestone, emphasizing the mall’s role as a gathering place for families and friends. She stated, “This event is our way of saying thank you to the community that has supported us since day one.”
Whether visitors are looking to capture memorable photos, enjoy shopping perks, or reminisce about cherished past visits, the “40 Years at the Met” anniversary provides a perfect reason to revisit this beloved destination.
