Laura Benanti and Alex Edelman Debut Shows at Steppenwolf Theatre Company

Steppenwolf Theatre Company is set to host two prominent performers, Laura Benanti and Alex Edelman, for special comedy engagements. Both shows showcase unique perspectives on life and identity, promising audiences an entertaining experience.
Laura Benanti’s Comedy Debut
The first performance will feature Laura Benanti’s acclaimed show, “Nobody Cares.” This one-woman comedy act is scheduled for five performances from August 6 to August 9, 2026. Benanti, a Tony Award winner, blends storytelling and original songs in this heartfelt piece. It humorously explores themes such as motherhood, aging, and the challenges of people-pleasing.
Originally an Audible Original, “Nobody Cares” has received recognition as a New York Times Critic’s Pick. This production, directed by Annie Tippe, features songs co-written by Todd Almond. After its debut at Steppenwolf, it will embark on a national tour following a successful run at London’s Underbelly Soho in July 2026.
Alex Edelman’s Return
Following Benanti’s performance, Alex Edelman will present his new show titled “What Are You Going to Do.” This comedy runs for five performances from August 12 to August 16, 2026. Edelman, who has previously captivated audiences with his show “Just For Us,” delves into complex questions surrounding identity and purpose.
In this thought-provoking performance, he grapples with decisions about his life path, reflecting on issues ranging from community ties to the influence of his father’s career as a physician. Edelman’s wit and insightful commentary challenge the audience to ponder their own experiences with trauma and faith.
