Star Suffers Severe Injury from Knockout Blow

Carlton’s AFL season reached a new low on Good Friday as they fell apart in the final quarter against North Melbourne. After leading by 22 points going into the fourth quarter, the Blues were outscored seven goals to two, losing the match 14.12 (96) to 13.8 (86).

Key Injury and Game Developments

The situation worsened for Carlton when key defender Jacob Weitering suffered a severe injury early in the final term. In a marking contest, he received a knee to the back of the head from North forward Zane Duursma. Weitering fell to the ground and remained motionless for a significant period as medical staff rushed to assist him.

After a lengthy delay, he was able to stand and leave the field with blood visible on the back of his head. Medical evaluations revealed he had failed a concussion test, which means he will miss the upcoming match against the Adelaide Crows on Thursday night during the Gather Round.

Turning Point of the Game

Despite an initial lead, Carlton struggled without their chief defensive player. After Brodie Kemp scored, the Blues maintained a 21-point lead at the 12-minute mark of the final term. However, that would be their last score of the match.

  • Cooper Trembath scored for North Melbourne.
  • Cameron Zurhaar and Paul Curtis followed suit with additional goals.
  • Harry Sheezel put North in front with a goal in the last minutes.

The final blow came from Jy Simpkin, sealing North Melbourne’s victory and putting their record at 3-1 for the season. Meanwhile, the loss dropped Carlton to 1-3, raising further scrutiny over the future of coach Michael Voss.

Criticism and Consequences

After the team’s disappointing performance, fans expressed their discontent with Voss. Journalist Mark Gottlieb noted on X, “Sorry Vossy, I reckon that’s it mate. You can’t still be coach of Carlton next week.” Another commentator, Matt Nicholls, hoped that the club would consider sacking Voss immediately.

Carlton’s next challenge is against the Adelaide Crows on Thursday night, where they hope to turn their season around after a series of setbacks.
