Sorrento’s City Center Activates ZTL, Operational Until October 25

Sorrento has activated its Low Traffic Zone (ZTL) amid the arrival of the Easter festivities, coinciding with the start of the tourist season. The ZTL regulation, which aims to manage traffic in the city center, is effective from April 1 through October 25.

Sorrento’s ZTL Coverage

The ZTL limits traffic in specific areas, including:

  • Viale Caruso
  • Piazza Tasso
  • Via Correale (from Achille Lauro parking to Piazza Tasso)
  • Corso Italia (from Piazza Tasso to the intersection with Via Marziale)

The restrictions extend into the historic part of Sorrento, covering:

  • Via Luigi De Maio
  • Piazza Sant’Antonino
  • Via San Francesco
  • Via Vittorio Veneto
  • Piazza della Vittoria
  • Via Marina Grande

Traffic Regulation Timings

Vehicle, scooter, and bus traffic is restricted daily from:

  • 7:30 PM to 4:00 AM
  • 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM on holidays

Monitoring and Enforcement

The ZTL access points are monitored by electronic gates installed in four locations:

  • Via Fuorimura (at the beginning of Viale Caruso)
  • Corso Italia (near the Carmine Church, at the Piazza Tasso intersection)
  • Via Correale (by the municipal parking entrance)
  • Via San Francesco (at the intersection with Via Luigi De Maio)

These high-tech systems can verify vehicle access in real time, issuing automatic fines to violators, which are sent directly to their addresses.

Permits and Access

Residents, workers, and designated categories can apply for annual permits or renew existing ones through the Sorrento municipal website. For occasional access, a form is available online, or inquiries can be made by calling the municipal police via the toll-free number 800 477 311.
