Easter Weekend: What’s Open and Closed in Ottawa

As Easter weekend approaches, residents of Ottawa can expect various changes to their local services and businesses. The holiday falls from Friday, April 3 to Monday, April 6 this year. Here’s a detailed overview of what’s open and closed in Ottawa during this period.

Good Friday, April 3

On Good Friday, several services will operate on modified schedules:

  • City Services: All locations, including Ottawa City Hall and provincial court, are closed.
  • Public Libraries: All branches of the Ottawa Public Library are closed.
  • Banks: Most bank branches will be closed.
  • Waste Collection: Curbside waste collection shifts to Saturday, though multi-unit garbage pickup will still occur.

The city’s 311 contact center remains accessible for urgent inquiries, while the Trail Road Waste Facility operates from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Notably, child-care centers and dental clinics will not be open on this day.

Easter Sunday, April 5

Easter Sunday sees a return to regular operations for many companies:

  • Public Libraries: All Ottawa Public Library branches reopen and resume regular hours.
  • Transit Services: OC Transpo runs on its typical Sunday schedule, and the customer service desk at Rideau Centre remains closed.

However, Para Transpo services continue with their scheduled trips. Additionally, the OC Transpo lost and found at St-Laurent station will be operational.

Easter Monday, April 6

On Easter Monday, many operations will also be adjusted:

  • City Services: Similar to Good Friday, there are no city services at municipal offices.
  • Public Libraries: All branches and services are closed.
  • Waste Collection: Curbside waste collection postpones to Tuesday, impacting schedules for the rest of the week.

While the 311 contact center is open for urgent matters, the Trail Road Waste Facility will maintain its hours. Child-care centers and dental clinics remain closed.

Transit and Parking Information

Throughout the weekend, City of Ottawa parking regulations will still apply. OC Transpo’s customer service desk at the Rideau Centre will reopen on Easter Monday, but regular Para Transpo trips will be canceled on that day. Riders can reach out by calling 613-560-5000 or utilizing My Para Transpo for bookings.

As Easter weekend nears, it is prudent for residents to verify business hours and service modifications to ensure a smooth experience during the holiday. Whether for shopping, recreation, or essential services, planning ahead can help navigate this festive weekend successfully.
