Embrace Neurodiversity on World Autism Acceptance Day

On April 2, 2026, the Sault Ste. Marie community will celebrate neurodiversity in honor of World Autism Acceptance Day. A flag-raising ceremony and a special proclamation will commence at 12:30 p.m. in front of City Hall. This event will feature attendance from the mayor, city officials, community members, and local partners.
Flag-Raising Ceremony Details
The ceremony aims to recognize and honor the strengths and contributions of autistic and neurodivergent individuals. A representative from The Algoma Autism Foundation stated that this observance serves to remind everyone of the necessity of acceptance and inclusivity. It promotes a collaborative effort to foster environments where all individuals can thrive.
Post-Ceremony Activities
Following the flag-raising ceremony, the Youth Wellness Hub will host various afternoon activities from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. These activities are designed to celebrate neurodiversity and foster connections among youth and families.
