April 2026 Universal Credit, Benefits & Pensions Payment Dates Adjusted for Easter

The financial landscape for households across the UK is set to undergo significant changes as April 2026 approaches. The adjustments in Universal Credit, benefits, and pensions, particularly around the Easter holiday, are crucial as the nation continues to grapple with cost of living challenges.
April 2026 Universal Credit and Benefits Payment Dates Adjusted for Easter
In April, several payment dates for benefits will shift due to the Easter holidays. Those due payments on Friday, April 3 (Good Friday), or Monday, April 6 (Easter Monday) will receive their funds on Thursday, April 2 instead. This change applies to the following benefits:
- Universal Credit
- State Pension
- Pension Credit
- Child Benefit
- Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
- Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- Attendance Allowance
- Carer’s Allowance
Pension Payment Dates
The basic state pension is paid directly to bank accounts every four weeks. Payment days correspond to the last two digits of a recipient’s National Insurance number:
- 00 to 19: Monday
- 20 to 39: Tuesday
- 40 to 59: Wednesday
- 60 to 79: Thursday
- 80 to 99: Friday
Upcoming Adjustments for Benefits
In April 2026, Universal Credit recipients will see a significant increase. Claimants will receive an above-inflation boost of approximately 6.2%. For single persons over 25, this means a rise from £92 to £98 per week. Couples will see an increase from £145 to £154 per week.
Other benefits, including PIP, DLA, and Attendance Allowance, are expected to increase according to September’s inflation rate, estimated at 3.8%. However, new claimants of the health-related element of Universal Credit will face a reduction, with rates dropping from £105 to £50.
Additional Financial Support Available
The Crisis and Resilience Fund will also be introduced in April, aimed at assisting low-income households. This fund will replace the existing Household Support Fund and discretionary housing payments.
Types of Financial Support
- Crisis Payments: Available for those facing financial emergencies.
- Housing Payments: Targeted financial support for housing costs associated with rental needs.
- Budgeting Advance Loans: Interest-free loans available to Universal Credit recipients for urgent financial needs.
- Charitable Grants: Options for those in distress available through various organizations.
Energy Price Cap Updates
The energy price cap will adjust to £1,641 from April 1 to June 31, 2026. This reflects a decrease of £117 from the previous cap.
Keeping abreast of these changes will be essential for households managing their finances amid ongoing economic uncertainties. Benefits programs are designed to provide necessary support, but recipients must remain vigilant about payment dates and eligibility for new assistance schemes.
