Records Shattered as Raleigh Relays Showcase Exceptional Performances

Records were shattered as YSU athletes showcased outstanding performances at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, North Carolina. The event took place at the Paul Derr Track and Field Complex, highlighting exceptional achievements from the Penguins.

Record-Breaking Performances

Two remarkable records were established during the relays. Sage Vavro broke a longstanding steeplechase record, previously set in 2009. He completed the event in 8:47.06, surpassing the former record of 8:49.25. McKinley Fielding also set a new benchmark in the 10,000-meter race, finishing in 34:02.56, improving her best by over half a minute.

Notable Achievements

  • Kaitlyn Eger: Won the women’s pole vault with a clearance of 4.02m, a personal best compared to her previous 3.85m.
  • Lea Parham: Achieved a personal best of 14.27 seconds in the 110m hurdles, ranking ninth in school history.
  • Caleigh Richards: Clocked 16:50.79 in the 5,000m, moving to fourth in program history.
  • Jenna Razavi: Recorded a time of 17:08.15, placing her sixth in YSU history.
  • Tori Atkins: Made a strong debut in the 400m with a time of 55.61 seconds, ranking fourth in the school’s history.

Impressive Team Results

The women’s relay team ran a time of 46.39 seconds in the 4x100m, finishing ninth overall. The men’s triple jump featured two remarkable performances, with Brayden Green achieving a leap of 14.78m, ranking third in school history. Emmanuel Asabere followed closely with a leap of 14.64m, placing sixth.

Upcoming Competitions

The YSU Penguins will continue their season at the Dave Labor Invitational, scheduled for Friday and Saturday. This event, hosted by Slippery Rock, offers more opportunities for athletes to showcase their talents and potentially break more records.
