Peters is projected to conclude his impressive four-year tenure with Hull KR at the end of 2026. He is already looking ahead to assembling the PNG Chiefs’ squad for their inaugural season in 2028. This new team will mark the NRL’s 19th franchise, joining the ranks alongside the Perth Bears, who are set to debut next year under head coach Mal Meninga.

Peter V’Landys, chairman of the Australian Rugby League Commission, has expressed his strong support for Peters, stating that the coach is “fully engaged and fully excited” about the potential new role.
