Bishkek Bans Kiosks, Canopies in Multi-Story Building Courtyards

The Ministry of Construction, Architecture, Housing, and Communal Services in Kyrgyzstan has implemented a ban on lightweight structures in apartment building courtyards across Bishkek. This decision was formalized by Minister Nurdan Oruntaev to address concerns raised by residents regarding overcrowding and aesthetics.
Bishkek’s Ban on Kiosks and Canopies
The new regulation prohibits the installation of various temporary structures, including kiosks, pavilions, canopies, metal awnings, and garages, specifically within the courtyards of multi-story buildings. The only exception to this ban is for water vending machines.
Reasons Behind the Ban
- Resident complaints about chaotic development.
- Efforts to maintain the city’s architectural integrity.
Regulatory Measures and Compliance
In response to this ban, the relevant authorities have been directed to halt the issuance of permits for new installations and to refrain from renewing permits for existing structures. The Department of State Architectural and Construction Control will oversee compliance with these regulations and monitor for any violations.
This initiative reflects the city’s commitment to enhancing urban planning and providing a better living environment for its residents. As Bishkek continues to grow, maintaining a balance between development and aesthetic preservation remains a priority.
