Hodgson Takes Helm After Struber’s Departure

Following the departure of Gerhard Struber, Bristol City has appointed Roy Hodgson as their Interim Head Coach. Hodgson, a former England manager, will lead the men’s first team for the remainder of the season. The club’s Chief Executive Officer, Charlie Boss, stated that a Sporting Director would be tasked with finding a permanent head coach for the 2026/27 campaign.
Changes in the Coaching Staff
The decision to appoint Hodgson comes after unsatisfactory performances from the team, which led to Struber and Assistant Head Coach Bernd Eibler being relieved of their roles effective immediately. Boss expressed gratitude for their contributions over the past nine months.
- Gerhard Struber and Bernd Eibler have left the club.
- Roy Hodgson takes over as Interim Head Coach.
- Focus will be on the remaining seven matches of the season.
Hodgson’s Experience
Hodgson brings a wealth of experience from his extensive managerial career in England and internationally. He previously enjoyed significant success during his time with Crystal Palace and other clubs.
“I am really excited by the opportunity to help until the end of the season,” Hodgson commented, indicating his readiness to engage with the players and staff. He aims to foster a positive atmosphere leading up to the upcoming match against Charlton Athletic on April 3rd.
Focus on Youth Development
In conjunction with Hodgson’s appointment, Brian Tinnion will shift his focus away from first-team duties and concentrate on the Academy Pathway. This strategic move is intended to enhance player development and establish a clearer route from the academy to the first team.
“Developing the talent in our Academy is central to our plans,” Boss noted, highlighting Tinnion’s expertise in youth development.
Interviews featuring Hodgson and CEO Boss will be released on the club’s channels on Monday evening, providing fans with insights into the new direction of Bristol City.
