Türkiye Deploys Tranche 4+ Eurofighters with ECRS Mk 0 Radar

Türkiye is set to enhance its air power with the introduction of Tranche 4+ Eurofighter aircraft. These advanced combat planes will be equipped with the Leonardo European Common Radar System (ECRS) Mk 0, an active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar.
Key Details of the Deployment
- Deal Value: GBP 5.4 billion (USD 7.27 billion) for 20 new aircraft.
- Training and Support Agreement: GBP 2.6 billion (USD 3.48 billion) signed on 25 March.
- Delivery Timeline: Aircraft deliveries to the Turkish Air Force (TurAF) are scheduled to begin in 2030.
- Standard Configuration: Common configuration expected between Türkiye and the UK.
Aircraft Specifications
The Tranche 4+ Eurofighter represents the most advanced variant available at the time of its introduction. It will feature several enhancements compared to previous models:
- Initially outfitted with ECRS Mk 0 radar.
- Potential retrofitting with Long Term Evolution (LTE) elements and ECRS Mk 2 in later deliveries.
Comparison with UK Royal Air Force
The UK Royal Air Force (RAF) plans to equip 40 of its Typhoons with the ECRS Mk 2 starting in 2030. However, this timeline suggests that initial Turkish airframes may not have this upgraded radar system installed at launch.
Future Enhancements
While no specific delivery schedule has been disclosed, it remains possible that later variants of the aircraft will be equipped with the LTE package. Additionally, early models may also be retrofitted to incorporate these upgrades as they become available.
This government-to-government agreement signifies a strong collaboration between Türkiye and the UK, aiming to bolster Türkiye’s defense capabilities in the coming years.
