Jackson Chourio Undergoes MRI for Hamstring Injury Assessment

In a high-stakes playoff opener, the Milwaukee Brewers achieved a commanding 9-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs in Game 1 of the National League Division Series (NLDS). All nine of the Brewers’ runs came in a dominant first two innings. However, the game was overshadowed by an injury to outfielder Jackson Chourio, who left the field with right hamstring tightness.

Jackson Chourio’s Injury Status

Chourio showcased his skills by hitting an RBI single during the early offensive surge. Unfortunately, he appeared to sustain an injury as he limped following the play. He was replaced by Isaac Collins as a pinch-runner and then as the left fielder in the subsequent inning.

MRI Assessment

Brewers manager Pat Murphy confirmed that Chourio was undergoing an MRI to assess the severity of the hamstring injury. After the game, he expressed his concern about the situation, stating, “It’s obviously real scary having that hamstring injury to the same leg. We’re hoping it’s something he can come back from soon… It could be devastating.”

Despite the troubling news, Chourio himself remained optimistic, explaining that his removal was solely precautionary. He communicated to reporters, “We’re still waiting on MRI results. But physically, I feel good, and I’m ready to keep competing.”

Previous Injuries and Performance

This incident marks a worrying recurrence, as Chourio previously strained his right hamstring earlier this summer. This earlier injury sidelined him for nearly a month, limiting his appearances in August. Following his return, he struggled offensively, batting .240 with three home runs in 117 plate appearances, compared to an impressive .276 with 17 home runs in the 472 plate appearances before his injury.

Chourio was also known for his speed on the basepaths, successfully stealing 18 bases in 25 attempts prior to his injury, whereas he stole three bases after returning. The Brewers had secured their playoff spot, which may have influenced his less aggressive baserunning post-injury.

Upcoming Games and Potential Impact

With Game 2 not scheduled until Monday, there is potential for Chourio to recover if the MRI results are favorable. The staggered NLDS schedule offers him a chance to rest before consecutive games in Chicago later in the week. If Chourio misses Game 2, it would be a setback for the Brewers, yet they may consider it a necessary precaution to ensure his health.

In the event of a significant injury requiring a roster change, replacing Chourio could jeopardize his eligibility for the National League Championship Series (NLCS) should Milwaukee advance. Therefore, the Brewers will carefully weigh their options, adding intrigue to an otherwise stable playoff lineup.
