Fifth Suspect Arrested in Police Operation Targeting Counterfeit Euro

The fight against counterfeit currency intensified recently with a coordinated operation resulting in five arrests linked to counterfeit euro production. This operation was led by the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (GDCOC).
Details of the Arrests in the Counterfeit Euro Operation
On Monday, four suspects were apprehended during a transaction involving fake currency. Two Bulgarians and two Romanians were among those detained. The suspects were caught by the GDCOC Counterfeiting Unit, which has been vigilant in monitoring such illegal activities.
Suspects and Findings
Authorities identified two key individuals in the operation. A Romanian and an Italian citizen were found to have regular ties to Bulgaria, emphasizing their ongoing efforts in producing and distributing counterfeit €100 banknotes.

Additional Discoveries in Pazardzhik
The investigation led to further actions in Pazardzhik, located in South Bulgaria. Here, an additional €200,000 in counterfeit money was uncovered along with one kilogram of cocaine. An Italian national was also detained at this location, underscoring the operation’s scope.

Authorities continue to work on this case, which has implications beyond Bulgaria. Investigative efforts will expand to Romania, indicating a wider network involved in counterfeiting activities. The GDCOC remains committed to combating organized crime and protecting the integrity of currency.
