RBI Calendar: Bank Holidays from March 23-29 for Ram Navami, Chaite Dasain

Next week, several private and public sector banks across India are set to observe bank holidays from March 23 to March 29, 2026. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced these holidays, which include the fourth Saturday and a standard Sunday break, bringing the total number of holidays this month to 18.

Bank Holidays Overview: March 23-29

During this period, banks will remain closed for four significant days:

  • March 26 (Thursday) – Shree Ram Navami: Banks will close in cities including Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Belapur, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Ranchi, and Shimla.
  • March 27 (Friday) – Shree Ram Navami (Chaite Dasain): Operations will be suspended in Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Gangtok, Hyderabad, Patna, and Vijayawada.
  • March 28 (Saturday) – Fourth Saturday: All public and private banks will have a day off throughout India.
  • March 29 (Sunday) – Mandatory weekend closure: Banks will be shut down nationwide.

General Banking Holiday Information

Bank holidays in India are not uniform since they are determined by regional and local observances. Generally, banks are open on the first, third, and fifth Saturdays of the month unless a specific public holiday is declared.

For a complete understanding of holiday schedules, customers are encouraged to reach out to their specific bank branches. This is particularly important for planning ahead in case of emergencies or extended holiday periods.

Online Banking Services Availability

Despite these physical bank closures, essential online banking services will continue uninterrupted. Customers can conveniently conduct financial transactions via their bank’s app or utilize the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system.

Online services typically remain operational, allowing customers to make payments and transfer money 24/7. However, they should remain aware that there could be brief downtimes due to scheduled maintenance notifications from their banks.

In addition, customer access to services such as NEFT/RTGS transfers, demand draft requests, and chequebook applications will also be available online. Other services, including credit card, debit card, and ATM card requests, can be processed seamlessly during this period.

In summary, understanding the RBI’s bank holiday schedule for March 23-29 is essential for efficient planning and to ensure uninterrupted access to banking services, even amid branch closures.
