Windows 11 March Update Prevents Microsoft Account Sign-In for Office, Copilot Apps

Microsoft’s Windows 11 March update has introduced a significant issue affecting certain versions of the operating system. Specifically, Windows 11 versions 25H2 and 24H2 with the update KB5079473 exhibit a problem with Microsoft account sign-ins.
Details of the Sign-In Issue
This issue hampers access to several Microsoft applications, including:
- Microsoft Teams (free version)
- OneDrive
- Microsoft Edge
- Excel
- Word
- Microsoft 365 Copilot
Users encounter an error message suggesting they are offline: “You’ll need the Internet for this. It doesn’t look like you’re connected to the Internet,” despite being connected. The flaw arises when a device enters a particular network connectivity state that the March update does not manage properly.
Effect on Microsoft Applications
Importantly, this problem is exclusive to Microsoft accounts. Affected applications incorrectly perceive the device as offline. Microsoft advises users to restart their devices to temporarily resolve the issue. However, there is a significant risk that the device will revert to the problematic connectivity state, leading to recurring sign-in failures.
Upcoming Solutions
In response to the situation, Microsoft is actively working on a fix. A resolution is anticipated to be rolled out next week. As this week concludes, users should expect updates soon.
Additional Issues Affecting Windows 11
This sign-in problem is not the only concern impacting Windows 11’s reputation. Reports have surfaced regarding accessibility of the C: drive on Samsung devices, with users facing the message “C: is not accessible – Access denied.”
Microsoft has indicated that the Samsung Galaxy Connect application is contributing to this issue. It is noteworthy that this C: drive access problem coincided with the March update, but was not solely caused by it.
Windows 11, particularly its versions 24H2 and 25H2 with the March update KB5079473 (OS Build 26100.8037), is currently under scrutiny due to these ongoing challenges.
