Mohsin Naqvi Warns IPL-Bound Players of Legal Action Amid PSL Exodus

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is facing challenges as international players opt for the Indian Premier League (IPL) over the Pakistan Super League (PSL). PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has issued a warning regarding potential legal action against these players.
Legal Action Against Players
Naqvi’s comments follow the signing of Sri Lankan T20I captain Dasun Shanaka by the Rajasthan Royals. Shanaka had originally gone unsold in the IPL auction and was selected by Lahore Qalandars for the PSL. He became the second player scheduled for the PSL to choose the IPL, after Zimbabwean pacer Blessing Muzarabani accepted a spot with Kolkata Knight Riders, replacing Mustafizur Rahman.
Last year, the PCB initiated legal measures against South African bowler Corbin Bosch, who withdrew from his PSL contract to join the Mumbai Indians. Naqvi reiterated that similar steps would be considered for the current players opting out.
PSL 2026 Player Highlights
Despite the player exodus, Naqvi emphasized that the PSL will still feature a lineup of top-tier international talent. Prominent names expected to participate include:
- Marnus Labuschagne
- Steve Smith
- Glenn Maxwell
Naqvi assured reporters that the IPL’s overlap does not diminish the PSL’s appeal. He acknowledged that multiple high-profile players are now willing to join the tournament.
Details on PSL 2026
The PSL 2026 is set to kick off two days prior to the IPL’s 19th edition. Key changes have been announced, including:
- Matches will only be held in Lahore and Karachi.
- The total number of venues has decreased from six to two.
- The opening ceremony is canceled due to the crisis in West Asia.
Fans who purchased tickets will receive refunds within 72 hours. The tournament will commence with the Lahore Qalandars facing the Hyderabad Kingsmen.
These adjustments and actions reflect the PCB’s focus on maintaining the integrity and appeal of the PSL amid external challenges.
