PSL 2026 Matches Closed to Public; Lahore, Karachi to Host All Games

The 2026 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) will proceed in a unique and unprecedented manner. Due to the ongoing crisis in West Asia, all matches are set to be held behind closed doors. Lahore and Karachi have been designated as the sole venues for the tournament, a significant reduction from the originally planned six locations.
Key Changes to the PSL 2026
- Venues: Matches will now occur only in Lahore and Karachi.
- Opening Ceremony: The planned opening ceremony in Lahore has been cancelled.
- Crowd Attendance: There will be no spectators at matches until the crisis is resolved.
Impact of the West Asia Crisis
The chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, mentioned that the current situation is a major factor affecting crowd attendance. He left open the possibility for later stages of the tournament to allow spectators, contingent on the improvement of conditions in the region. Naqvi stated, “We cannot have 30,000 people in stadiums every day when the government is requesting the public to restrict movements due to the fuel crisis.”
Refunds and Compensation
In light of the decision to prohibit crowds, Naqvi assured that ticket buyers would receive refunds. He also pledged to compensate franchise owners for lost revenue stemming from empty stands. Teams such as Peshawar, which was set to host a match on March 28, will be particularly affected by these changes.
Legal Actions Against Players
The PCB plans to take legal action against players who opt out of the PSL to join the Indian Premier League (IPL). Notable withdrawals include Blessing Muzarabani and Dasun Shanaka. Daniel Sams has been brought in to replace Shanaka at Lahore Qalandars.
Match Schedule
The PSL 2026 season is scheduled to commence on March 26 and will conclude with the final match on May 3. Given the current circumstances, the PCB emphasizes the importance of moving forward, despite the challenges faced.
Naqvi concluded by stating that the league could not afford to postpone its schedule, as there were no alternative windows available throughout the year. The PSL aims to maintain its legacy, even amid global uncertainties.
