Storm Therese Blankets Tenerife in Snow, Wind, and Rain

The Spanish island of Tenerife is currently under the influence of Storm Therese, bringing severe weather conditions characterized by snow, wind, and rain. The Spanish weather agency, AEMET, has issued orange weather warnings that remain in effect into Saturday.
Impact of Storm Therese on Tenerife
Northern Tenerife is expected to experience strong wind gusts of 90-100 km/h (56-62 mph). Meanwhile, the southern regions of the island face heavy rainfall warnings.
Rainfall Statistics
In certain areas, rain accumulation could reach up to 100 mm (4 inches) within a 12-hour period. This heavy downpour increases the risk of:
- Flooding
- Landslides
- Transport disruptions
Emergency Measures in Effect
In response to the impending storm, the Cabildo de Tenerife, the island’s governing council, activated its emergency plan on Wednesday. Residents and visitors have been urged to remain cautious and limit travel.
Additional Safety Precautions
Temporary shelters have been established in the most affected areas, and access to Teide National Park has been restricted due to adverse weather conditions.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and advise the public to stay informed about the weather updates. Those in Tenerife are encouraged to take necessary precautions during Storm Therese.
