Candice Michelle Admits Lack of Formal Training Before WWE Debut

Candice Michelle has opened up about her unconventional journey into the world of professional wrestling. She disclosed that she signed with WWE and participated in matches without any formal training. Instead, she relied on fleeting opportunities to learn from experienced wrestlers and independent resources to hone her craft.
Candice Michelle’s Training Journey
During a recent appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Michelle clarified the misinformation regarding her training history. Although her Wikipedia page cites several notable trainers, she insists that none of them directly trained her. “None of them I was trained by,” she stated emphatically.
Learning on the Fly
Michelle acknowledged that she did receive some guidance from veterans like Arn Anderson and Trish Stratus. However, she felt unprepared at the time to absorb their lessons. Instead, she described a self-driven approach to learning the ropes of wrestling.
- Arrived early to training sessions to practice while others set up the ring.
- Rented a wrestling ring for $3 a day to work on her skills.
- Engaged with independent wrestlers to receive one-on-one coaching when possible.
“I would get there earlier, like when the refs and everybody was setting up the ring, and I would get in the ring,” she recalled. This determination marked her early experiences as she sought to improve her abilities. “I went out there and wrestled without knowing how to wrestle,” she admitted.
Understanding Her Limitations
Michelle’s WWE tenure provided her with unique opportunities but also revealed her limitations. After her time in WWE, she chose not to pursue the independent circuit. “I just knew the indie scene wasn’t for me,” she explained. She felt that she was wrestling against some of the best with only basic knowledge and did not want to risk her safety in a more unpredictable environment.
Future Prospects
Recently, Candice Michelle has taken on a new role as an agent with TNA and hinted at a potential return to in-ring competition. Her journey reflects the challenges many face in professional wrestling without formal training and the drive required to succeed.
