British Airways Increases London-Costa Rica Flights

British Airways is set to enhance its service to Costa Rica, increasing flights from three to five weekly beginning in October 2026. This adjustment aims to bolster connectivity between Costa Rica and the United Kingdom throughout the winter travel season.
Flight Schedule and Changes
The new schedule will run through March 2027, with a significant change in the departure airport. Flights will transition from London Gatwick to London Heathrow. This shift allows access to British Airways’ primary hub, offering a broader range of onward connections across Europe.
Updated Flight Days
- Flights to San José will operate on:

Impact on Costa Rican Tourism
This service enhancement is significant for Costa Rica’s tourism sector. The shift to Heathrow positions the country at one of Europe’s busiest airports. It enhances accessibility not just from London but also from other UK locations and the continent.
Tourism Statistics
The move coincides with impressive tourism figures. In January and February 2026, Costa Rica welcomed 602,960 air arrivals, marking a 12.2% increase compared to the previous year. Notably, 15,741 of these travelers came from the United Kingdom, making it the third largest European market for Costa Rica, following Germany and France.
The expanded British Airways schedule is anticipated to provide additional seats during a peak tourism period. The demand for winter sun destinations typically rises during this time. This increase signals strong airline interest in serving Juan Santamaría International Airport and the San José region.
