Video Captures Vaughan Home Invasion as Homeowner Fires Shots

York Regional Police (YRP) have shared footage of a dramatic home invasion that took place in Vaughan, Ontario. The incident, which included a homeowner firing their legally owned firearm, has led to the arrest of one of the three suspects involved.
Details of the Vaughan Home Invasion
The home invasion occurred around 12:50 a.m. on Tuesday. It was reported near Carrville Woods Circle and Crimson Forest Drive, not far from Rutherford Road. Authorities received calls about a shooting, but by the time they arrived, the suspects had already escaped.

According to police, multiple suspects, at least one armed, forced their way into the residence. During the breach, an occupant managed to retrieve a properly stored firearm, firing shots at the intruders. The suspects fled the scene in a black pickup truck before officers could respond.
Homeowner Not Charged
No injuries were reported for the individuals inside the home. Investigators determined no charges would be filed against the homeowner who discharged the weapon. Acting Chief Cecile Hammond remarked on the seriousness of the situation, emphasizing the right to use reasonable force when facing an immediate threat.
Injured Suspect Identified
Approximately three hours after the invasion, police received a report about a man with a gunshot wound at a Toronto hospital at 3:15 a.m. Investigators linked this injury to the earlier home invasion. The man, Trestin Casanova-Alman, 24, is in stable condition and is currently in police custody.
