Former Bloc MP Arrested in Quebec for Sexual Assault in Authority Position
Pascal-Pierre Paillé, a former federal MP for the Bloc Québécois, was arrested on charges of sexual assault involving minors. The 47-year-old was taken into custody by the Québec City Police Service (SPVQ) on a Tuesday morning in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures.
Arrest Details
Paillé, a representative from 2008 to 2011 for the Louis-Hébert riding, faces several serious charges. These include:
- Sexual assault in a position of authority
- Sexual contact with a minor
- Additional counts of sexual assault
He is scheduled for a court appearance in the afternoon at the Québec courthouse.
Suspension from Teaching Position
Following the allegations, the Centre de services scolaire de la Capitale announced that Paillé has been suspended for over a month. This action came in the wake of the troubling accusations against him.
Details of the Allegations
According to the SPVQ, the incidents involving Paillé occurred during two separate events. The first incident allegedly took place between January 1 and June 25, 2006, when he reportedly exploited his authority to engage in sexual activities with a student.
The second alleged incident occurred in August 2024. According to a source familiar with the situation, a 14-year-old, referred to as Mathys, expressed concerns about his encounters with Paillé.
Online Interactions
Mathys claims he had a conversation with Paillé through the gay dating application Grindr. The former MP allegedly sent Mathys shirtless photos, claiming to be a high school teacher in his thirties. Mathys misrepresented his age as 17.
The two arranged to meet publicly at a festival but did not engage in any activity during that first encounter. On a subsequent meeting, Paillé picked Mathys up in his black Jeep, which had white stars on its doors. They met in a secluded wooded area in north Québec.
Impact on Victim
Following their encounter, Mathys reached out to Paillé to discuss what transpired. Feeling pressured and confused, he expressed his concern about potential problems arising from their interaction. When they subsequently met at the École secondaire de Neufchâtel, where Paillé was employed briefly, Mathys felt anxiety and regret.
Seeking Support
The burden began to weigh heavily on Mathys, prompting him to confide in a trusted adult. The adult, shocked by the revelations, recognized the legal implications of Paillé’s actions and encouraged Mathys to report the incident to the police.
Mathys hopes that revealing his story will encourage other potential victims to come forward. He emphasized his concern for anyone else who might have experienced a similar situation.
