Canada’s Conners Holds Fourth After Challenging Round at The Players

Corey Conners is currently tied for fourth place after a challenging third round at The Players Championship held at TPC Sawgrass. He finished with an even-par score of 72, maintaining his position on the leaderboard but needing to catch up to the leaders.

Current Standings at The Players Championship

Conners sits five strokes behind leader Ludvig Aberg, who is at 13 under par. The leaderboard also features:

  • Michael Thorbjornsen – 10 under
  • Cameron Young – 9 under

Despite leading the field in strokes gained: approach to the green for the week, Conners described his performance as “scrappy.” He struggled with his accuracy, notably on the par-5 2nd hole, where he missed his approach shot from 150 yards.

Key Moments of the Day

The turning point for Conners came early, on the third hole, where he recorded a double bogey after a challenging bunker shot. He did manage to make birdies on holes 4 and 7 but dropped strokes on the par-3 8th and the par-4 10th, which was the second-most difficult hole that day.

Conners finished strong, making birdies on holes 12 and 17. He expressed optimism for the final round, mentioning, “I have been working hard on my game and just haven’t had the results I’ve wanted this season thus far.” He is set to play alongside Justin Thomas in one of the final pairings.

Other Canadian Players Shine

Other Canadian golfers also competed well during the third round. Highlights include:

  • Taylor Pendrith – Even-par 72
  • Nick Taylor – 2-under 70 (for the second consecutive day)
  • Sudarshan Yellamaraju – 6-under 66 (the second-lowest round of the day)

Yellamaraju, a 24-year-old rookie, showcased an impressive performance. He began his round with four consecutive birdies and ended with a solid overall game, ranking first in strokes gained: approach to green and strokes gained: putting. His unique background as a self-taught golfer contributes to his determination on the course.

Looking Ahead

As the tournament progresses, Conners and Yellamaraju are eager to build momentum. Conners hopes that tomorrow’s round can turn his season around, while Yellamaraju aims to maintain his composed performance. Both golfers are poised for an exciting finish at The Players Championship.
