Hutson Secures 3-Year Entry-Level Deal with Capitals
Cole Hutson has officially signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Washington Capitals. The deal holds an average annual value of $975,000.

Drafted in the second round (No. 43) of the 2024 NHL Draft, Hutson recently concluded his sophomore season at Boston University. His season ended with a 5-3 defeat to the University of Connecticut during the Hockey East Tournament quarterfinals.

At just 19 years old, Hutson is set to practice with the Capitals on Tuesday. He may make his NHL debut on Wednesday against the Ottawa Senators at 7:30 p.m. ET (MNMT, SN, TVAS).
Impressive Performance at Boston University
This past season, Hutson showcased his skills by leading Boston University in assists with 22 and in total points with 32. Additionally, he ranked third in goals scored with 10 over 35 games. His performance earned him a spot on the All-Hockey East First Team for two consecutive seasons.
Over his career at BU, Hutson compiled a total of 80 points, comprising 24 goals and 56 assists across 74 games. He stands at 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 165 pounds, hailing from St. Louis.
International Success
Cole Hutson has represented the United States in international competition. He participated in the IIHF World Junior Championship on two occasions. Remarkably, he was the first defenseman to lead the tournament in points, amassing 11 points (three goals and eight assists) to help the U.S. capture the gold medal in 2025.
During the 2026 tournament, Hutson faced a setback when he missed two games after being struck in the back of the head by a puck in a preliminary round match against Switzerland. However, he returned for the quarterfinals, contributing one goal and one assist in a close 4-3 overtime loss to Finland. Overall, he finished the event with four points (one goal, three assists) in just three games.
