Storm Sweeps Across Part of Quebec

A winter storm is set to impact parts of Quebec starting Sunday, bringing a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain. The storm is expected to affect large areas and persist until Monday or Tuesday morning, depending on the region.

Details of the Winter Storm in Quebec

According to meteorologist Guillaume Perron from Environment Canada, this storm will be caused by a Colorado low moving towards Quebec. The storm will primarily bring snow to several regions, while areas in the Saint Lawrence Valley, including Greater Montreal, will mainly experience rain.

Snow Accumulation Predictions

  • Abitibi-Témiscamingue: 20 to 50 cm of snow
  • Côte-Nord and Nord-du-Québec: 20 to 50 cm of snow
  • Northwest Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean and Mauricie: 15 to 30 cm of snow
  • Laurentides: 5 to 10 cm of snow

This snowfall could lead to blowing snow and reduced visibility due to gusts of wind reaching up to 50 km/h. Environment Canada warns that travel may become difficult, with visibility potentially dropping to nearly zero at times.

Freezing Rain Risks

As temperatures rise above freezing, the snow is expected to transition into rain. This changeover poses a risk for freezing rain, potentially leaving 2 to 5 mm of ice on surfaces.

Temperature Fluctuations

Following a brief warm spell, temperatures are forecasted to plummet, potentially reaching -20 °C in some areas overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday.

Residents are advised to prepare for challenging travel conditions and stay updated on local weather advisories from El-Balad and Environment Canada. Emergency services may respond to any road closures resulting from the storm.
