Rizwan Supports Ghazi Ghori’s Merit-Based Selection for Bangladesh Tour

Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan has expressed strong support for the selection of emerging wicketkeeper Ghazi Ghori in the ODI squad for the upcoming series against Bangladesh. Rizwan is urging critics to allow young talent room to develop at the international level. His comments came during a training camp in Karachi, where he discussed the recent selections for the team.
Rizwan Advocates for Ghazi Ghori’s Inclusion
Despite some skepticism surrounding Ghori’s selection, Rizwan believes it is based on merit and performance rather than speculation. “Ghazi has made the team on the basis of performance. Everyone is entitled to their opinion,” Rizwan stated. Ghori is among six uncapped players included in Pakistan’s ODI squad, highlighting a broader initiative to introduce fresh talent into the framework of the national cricket team.
Potential for Fresh Talent in Pakistan Cricket
Rizwan views this development as a significant positive for Pakistan cricket, especially concerning the wicketkeeping role, where historically the competition has been minimal. He remarked, “Right now, Ghazi is in the squad, but if you look at the past, many wicketkeepers have been performing. It’s good if more keepers come through the system because Pakistan might finally find what it has been searching for.”
Caution Against Underestimating Bangladesh
Looking beyond player selections, Rizwan also highlighted the need to respect Bangladesh’s capabilities, particularly in their home conditions. “On paper, the series may look easy, but Bangladesh are a tough side at home. The pitches suit them,” he noted. This caution underlines the importance of preparation and strategy for the upcoming series.
Leadership’s Role in Team Selection
Rizwan also addressed critical issues surrounding team structure, emphasizing the need for leaders to have a voice in selection matters. “If the selection committee or head coach does not listen to the captain, then that person should not be captain. The captain has to lead the team on the field, so his opinion must matter,” he added.
