Lance Stroll Reviews Aston Martin’s Progress Since Australian GP

Lance Stroll reviewed Aston Martin’s challenging progress since the Australian Grand Prix, framing it as a difficult period for the team. The Canadian driver struggled during qualifying for the Chinese Grand Prix held on a recent Saturday, finishing 21st on the timesheet, just ahead of Sergio Perez. Stroll recorded a significant gap of 2.8 seconds to the fastest time, which was set by Charles Leclerc.

Aston Martin’s Pressing Challenges

In comparison to his previous performance in Melbourne, where Stroll couldn’t participate due to an engine issue, this result seemed slightly better. However, Stroll did not feel optimistic about the team’s progress. When questioned about improvements since the last race, his response was clear: “No.”

Further inquiries about whether completing more laps in Shanghai made a difference elicited the same reply. When asked if he expected any improvement during the upcoming race, he again said, “No.” This sentiment underscores the struggles Aston Martin faces early in the season.

Performance in Sprint Qualifying

Stroll and his teammate, Fernando Alonso, faced further challenges as they were eliminated after the first segment of sprint qualifying. Unfortunately, only the Cadillac drivers finished behind them, indicating a tough performance. Despite their struggles, both drivers completed 19 laps during the short race, finishing 17th and 18th.

Looking Ahead: Goals for the Main Race

Alonso mentioned the aim for the main race was simple: finish without any retirements. “It would be good to see the chequered flag for the first time,” Alonso stated, indicating a cautious optimism for the main event. The team’s focus remains on gathering momentum as they progress through the season.

  • Qualifying Position: 21st
  • Time Gap to Fastest: 2.8 seconds
  • Sprint Qualifying Finish: 17th and 18th
  • Laps Completed in Short Race: 19

This ongoing struggle highlights the significant work Aston Martin must undertake to regain competitiveness in Formula 1. The team hopes to leverage this experience for more substantial development as the season unfolds.
