War Munitions Disposal in Borgsdorf Resolves Train Delays

The successful disposal of war munitions in the forested area between Borgsdorf and Oranienburg has resolved significant train delays. This operation was completed on Wednesday afternoon, as confirmed by the city of Hohen Neuendorf. Previously, the area had been secured with a safety perimeter due to several unauthorized entries.
Details on the War Munitions Disposal
On Wednesday morning, a safety perimeter extending 1,000 meters was established around the munitions site. Residents were evacuated from the area by 8 AM. By late afternoon, the perimeter was lifted, but not without delays due to the complexities of the operation.
Impact on Transportation
The munitions disposal operation caused notable disruptions in transportation around northern Berlin. Several train and bus lines were affected, with the following services experiencing interruptions:
- S-Bahn Line S1
- Regional Express Lines RE5, RE85
- Regional Bahn Lines RB12, RB20
- Bus Line 816
Initially, S-Bahn trains ceased operations at Borgsdorf station. While the service disruption was anticipated to end around 4 PM, trains eventually resumed with about 37 minutes of delay.
Current Transportation Status
All long-distance trains have since resumed service, but there are still restrictions in place. The rail connection between Berlin and Oranienburg remains closed for both regional and long-distance travel due to ongoing repairs triggered by a fire incident earlier in the week.
Detours and Alternatives
In the meantime, long-distance train services are being rerouted through Berlin-Spandau. The regional services, including lines RE5, RE6, RE85, and RB12, are suspended between Gesundbrunnen and Oranienburg. Buses have been arranged to serve as alternative transport during this period.
The swift response by city and transportation authorities highlights the importance of safety during munitions disposal operations while ensuring that the public’s mobility is restored as quickly as possible.
