19 Migrants Land at Dawn on Alicudi: Watch the Video

At dawn, 19 migrants landed on the island of Alicudi, part of the Eolian Islands. Fishermen first spotted them early in the morning. They had been transported to a secluded area called Ponente, near Galera Rock, before the vessel that brought them vanished.
The group comprises young individuals, primarily in their twenties, dressed well and notably dry upon arrival. Local youths quickly responded to the situation. They used their boat to make three trips to transport the migrants from Ponente to the island’s center.
Once there, local families provided food and support to the newcomers. The Coast Guard was informed about the arrival and dispatched a team to Alicudi to facilitate the migrants’ transfer to a reception center.
Coast Guard Response
By 12:35 PM, the 19 migrants, identified as Iranian and Iraqi nationals, were boarded onto two Coast Guard and Finance Guard vessels. Many among them are quite young.
The migrants were initially brought ashore at Ponente and later transferred by a local fishing boat to the port. The vessels will take them to Milazzo, where they will be redirected to a reception facility in Messina.
