Bills Secure Former Bears DB CJ Gardner-Johnson

The Buffalo Bills are set to enhance their secondary by signing former Chicago Bears defensive back CJ Gardner-Johnson. This one-year contract is valued at up to $6 million, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero.

Gardner-Johnson’s Impact with the Bears

CJ Gardner-Johnson joined the Bears during the previous season as an injury replacement for Kyler Gordon. After being released by two teams earlier that year, he found success in Chicago. His performance was particularly impressive in his first few games, during which he registered three sacks, two interceptions, and one forced fumble.

Defensive Versatility

Even after Gordon returned to the lineup, Gardner-Johnson maintained a significant role. He contributed both as a nickel cornerback and a safety in various defensive packages. His efforts were pivotal in helping the Bears achieve an 11-6 overall record for the season.

Departures from the Bears’ Defense

Gardner-Johnson is not the only defensive back moving to the AFC East. Other former Bears players such as Nahshon Wright and Kevin Byard have also made their way to the division, joining the New York Jets and New England Patriots, respectively.

Looking Ahead

The Bills aim to bolster their defense with this new addition. Gardner-Johnson’s skills and previous experience in the league will be invaluable as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
