Severe weather conditions have recently struck Mississippi, leading to power outages affecting thousands of residents. Heavy storms caused widespread disruptions, particularly on March 12, leaving at least one person dead and several injured. According to PowerOutage.com, approximately 53,200 customers in Mississippi were without power early Thursday morning. The numbers fluctuated, with 48,195 still lacking service by 5:15 a.m. Hinds County reported the highest outage figures, with 6,686 customers affected, followed by:

  • Pike County: 6,641

Governor Tate Reeves expressed condolences for the fatality reported in Lawrence County and urged prayers for those injured during the storm.

Weather Forecast: Cold Front and Snow

The National Weather Service predicts a significant temperature drop following the recent mild weather, with freezing temperatures expected next week. Areas in North Mississippi, including Oxford and Starkville, may experience snow showers.

Forecast highlights include:

  • Oxford: Possible snow showers on Monday, low of 34°F.
  • Starkville: Low expected at 28°F, with snow showers possible.
  • Southaven and other northern regions also have slight snow chances.
