Elisabeth Moss Embraces Fun in New Project ‘Imperfect Women’ After ‘Handmaid’s Tale’

Actress Elisabeth Moss is shifting gears with her latest project, Imperfect Women, a series that marks a departure from her intense role in The Handmaid’s Tale. Since 2019, Moss has worked on adapting Araminta Hall’s novel, which centers on three friends whose lives unravel after a murder occurs.
Elisabeth Moss Ventures into New Territory
Moss aimed to move away from the dark themes of Gilead. She expressed her desire for a project that is “fun” and “entertaining,” contrasting starkly with her previous work. The series, produced amid pandemic delays and Hollywood strikes, provides a refreshing change of pace. “Not going to lie, it’s nice,” she remarked about shooting in Los Angeles during summer.
A Star-Studded Cast
In addition to her role as an executive producer, Moss assembled a talented cast, including Kerry Washington and Kate Mara. Showrunner Annie Weisman noted the surprise in Moss choosing a different type of character. “She wanted to work with actresses she admires,” Weisman explained, highlighting Moss’s wish to share the spotlight.

Mara, a longtime admirer of Moss, and Washington, who has known her since their teenage years, both expressed excitement about joining the project. Washington humorously shared her initial concerns, saying, “I hope the material’s good because I really want to work with her.”
Unique Narrative Structure
The series structure allows each actress to share the story through their character’s perspective. Moss aimed for a narrative that features “three shows in one,” offering viewers a fresh experience. The creators made several adaptations from the book to screen, including a setting in Los Angeles, ensuring surprises for fans of the novel.
Streaming Information
Imperfect Women will begin streaming on March 18 on Apple TV. Also starring Joel Kinnaman, Leslie Odom Jr., and Corey Stoll, the series promises to engage audiences with its blend of suspense and drama.
