Exploring West Island: Top Highlights and Activities

The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) has scheduled community information sessions due to the upcoming opening of the Anse-à-l’Orme REM line. Residents will have the chance to ask questions during these sessions, which will be held in various locations. A recent meeting took place in St. Laurent, while another is set for tonight in Pointe-Claire at City Hall.

Driving School Closure
Steps Driving School in Dorval has been permanently closed following an order from the SAAQ. The closure came after the school was found to be ineligible to teach driving. Students are advised to contact the SAAQ for any inquiries about records or refunds.
Water Advisory Lifted
A boil water advisory that was issued after a water main break has now been lifted. The incident occurred near Dorval and Avro Avenues and required temporary water shutdowns in several areas, including Dorval, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Pointe-Claire, and St. Laurent.
Emergency Incident Near Airport
On Saturday morning, police discovered a 27-year-old man injured and unconscious near Trudeau International Airport. He was found with upper body injuries and is in critical condition at a local hospital. Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage to investigate the incident.
Pointe-Claire Youth Advisory Board
Pointe-Claire is seeking applicants for its Youth Advisory Board. The board aims to improve city services and events for young people. Candidates must be bilingual residents aged 14 to 21 and can apply online until March 29 at 4 p.m.
Kirkland Workers’ Strike
Blue collar workers in Kirkland staged a two-day strike last week. The workers, represented by CUPE 301, are advocating for a new contract after having no agreement since December 2023. Reports of an altercation involving a city foreman have surfaced during the strike.
Mayor Visits Police Training Centre
Dimitrios Jim Beis, Mayor of Pierrefonds-Roxboro, recently visited the Montreal Police Service training centre. He praised the facility as unique in Canada and participated in simulation exercises, gaining insight into the challenges faced by officers.
Registration for Vacant Buildings
New registration procedures for vacant buildings are now in place in Île Bizard and Ste. Geneviève. Owners must register any vacant buildings, regardless of use, with the borough by March 16. A fee of $275 applies.
Senneville Senior Committee Established
The Village of Senneville has formed a steering committee to better address the needs of senior citizens. This new initiative was confirmed during the municipal council meeting held on February 24. The committee will focus on citizen participation and recommendations to improve services for seniors.
