Community Rallies to Combat Persistent Littering with Clean-Up Campaign

The Keep Torfaen Tidy Spring Clean campaign aims to address ongoing littering issues in the region. Supported by Keep Wales Tidy, the initiative will unfold across various locations in Torfaen from March 11 to March 24.

Volunteer Information
Councillor Mandy Owen, who serves as the executive member for the environment at Torfaen County Borough Council, emphasized the importance of community involvement. “Spring Clean is a perfect example of the Torfaen Deal in action,” she stated. The campaign not only enhances the local environment but also encourages collaboration among individuals and groups.
Meet-Up Points and Schedule
Participants can join the litter picking events at specific locations throughout the campaign period. The meet-up points are:
- Northville Car Park, Cwmbran – March 11
- Cwmbran Boating Lake – March 13
- Cold Barn Farm Community Centre – March 16
- Garn Lakes Car Park – March 19
- Halo Pontypool Leisure Centre – March 24
All venues are wheelchair accessible, ensuring inclusivity for all volunteers.
What to Bring
While the council will provide litter picking equipment, volunteers are encouraged to bring the following:
- Gloves
- Sturdy footwear
- Weather-appropriate clothing
Events will be held daily from 10 AM to 2 PM. Last year, participants collected an impressive 68 bags of litter and 13 bags of recyclable materials. Councillor Owen challenged the community to surpass this achievement in 2024.
