Liverpool to Submit €70m Offer for Real Madrid Defender: Report

Liverpool is preparing to make a significant move for Real Madrid defender Dean Huijsen, as reported by a Spanish outlet. Manager Arne Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes aim to reinitiate their pursuit of the central defender ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
Liverpool’s Interest in Dean Huijsen
Dean Huijsen was previously signed by Real Madrid from Bournemouth in the summer of 2025 for €62.5 million. At the time, Liverpool had also expressed interest in acquiring the player but ultimately lost out to the Spanish giants. Since joining Madrid, Huijsen has become a fixture in their defense, although his performances have varied.
Planned €70 Million Offer
According to the report, Liverpool is set to offer €70 million to persuade Real Madrid to let Huijsen leave at the end of this season. The club believes he possesses the necessary skills that align with the physical style of play in the Premier League. His capability to effectively manage the ball from the back and his strong physical presence are viewed as ideal attributes for Liverpool’s defense.
Current Defensive Situation at Liverpool
- Ibrahima Konate: Contract expires this season
- Rhys Williams: Contract expires this season
- Giovanni Leoni: Injured (anterior cruciate ligament)
- Joe Gomez: Prone to injuries
- Virgil van Dijk: Experienced central defender
Additionally, Jeremy Jacquet is expected to join Liverpool from Rennes, potentially boosting their defensive options for next season.
Madrid’s Dilemma
Even though Real Madrid could make a profit from selling Huijsen, they may be hesitant. Key defenders Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba will also be out of contract at the end of the season, making the team’s defensive stability a concern. Madrid plans to recruit at least one elite centre-back during the summer transfer window, complicating the decision regarding Huijsen’s future.
Should Madrid choose to let him go, finding a suitable replacement may prove challenging, especially considering the demands of high-level football.
