Cambridge and Six Nations Face New Flood Warnings Amid Rain Forecast

A new flood warning has been issued for Cambridge and Six Nations, with an upgraded warning for West Montrose. This announcement comes from the Grand River Conservation Authority.
Flood Risks in Cambridge and Six Nations
On Tuesday morning, the authority reported that the lower Speed River in Cambridge is experiencing elevated water levels. Flooding is anticipated in low-lying areas. Similarly, Six Nations is under threat as river flows are expected to rise in the lower Grand River, leading to flooding concerns.
Upgraded Warning in West Montrose
In West Montrose, the flood warning has escalated to Zone 3. This means more homes are now at risk of flooding.
Additional Flood Warnings and Watches
Flood warnings remain in effect for several communities, including:
- Grand Valley
- St. Jacobs
- Village of Conestogo
- New Hamburg
- Ayr
- Drayton
- Brant County
- Brantford
- Haldimand County
A flood watch is also in place for the remainder of the Grand River watershed, which spans from Dundalk in the north to Lake Erie in the south. This area includes Waterloo region, Guelph, and Wellington County.
Weather Conditions and Forecast
The Grand River Conservation Authority noted that recent warm temperatures have melted much of the snowpack, increasing water levels in rivers and streams. Forecasts indicate additional rainfall that could further elevate these levels.
Expected Rainfall
Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a special weather statement for southern Ontario, warning of significant rain from Tuesday into Wednesday. Predicted rainfall amounts range from 20 to 40 mm, with higher totals possible in areas experiencing thunderstorms.
Safety Reminders
Residents are urged to exercise caution near water bodies. The banks can be slippery, and the cold water poses a risk. Any remaining ice on local waterways is unstable and hazardous.
