The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced an increase in Universal Credit rates, set to take effect in April. This change will benefit approximately 8.3 million claimants across the UK as part of an annual uplift.

As a result of the upcoming adjustments, four million households are anticipated to see an average income boost of around £725. This increase aims to alleviate financial pressures for those reliant on Universal Credit.

New Payment Rates Overview

  • Single claimants over 25: increased to £338 (up from £316).
  • Single claimants aged 25 and over: increased to £424 (up from £400).
  • Couples under 25: risen to £528.34 (up from £497.55).
  • Joint claimants (one or both over 25): increased to £666.97 (up from £628.10).

Child Amount Changes

  • Payment for first children born before 6 April 2017: increased to £351.88 (up from £339).
  • Future first children and subsequent children: risen to £303.94 (up from £292.81).

Capability for Work and Carer Amounts

  • Limited Capability for Work amounts: unchanged at £158.76.
  • Limited Capability for Work and Work-Related Activity amount: reduced to £217.26 (down from £423.27).
  • Special provisions for severe conditions or terminal illnesses: remain at £429.80.
  • Carer amounts: increased to £209.34 (up from £201.68).

Work Allowance Increases

  • Higher work allowance (no housing amount, one or more children or limited capability for work): increased to £710.00 (up from £684.00).
  • Lower work allowance (one or more dependent children or limited capability for work): increased to £427.00 (up from £411.00).
