Marwah Rizqy Reflects on PLQ Crisis: “I Hoped for a Different Outcome”

Marwah Rizqy, the independent Member of the National Assembly (MNA) for Saint-Laurent, has openly reflected on her experiences with the Liberal Party of Quebec (PLQ). In a recent interview, she expressed a desire for a different conclusion to her time in the party. Rizqy shared the emotional toll her political journey has taken, both on herself and her family.

Reflections on the PLQ Crisis

During her interview with LCN, Rizqy admitted she did not anticipate the way her political career concluded. She revealed that she learned about her exclusion from the party via radio while driving, stating, “Nobody warned me!” This unexpected news highlighted her frustration with the leadership transition.

A Desire for a Different Outcome

Rizqy indicated she hoped for a more respectful exit. Although she feels liberated as an independent member, her dissatisfaction with the circumstances remains palpable. “I would have liked to have had a different ending, of course,” she noted, emphasizing her unwillingness to be a passive player in the situation.

Reactions to Leadership Decisions

New Liberal leader Charles Milliard contacted Rizqy to discuss her status, which she appreciated. She acknowledged that he had to make quick decisions amidst an unexpected leadership crisis. Rizqy remarked on Milliard’s human approach, stating that he too faced challenges during the transition.

Addressing the Allegations

Rizqy has faced accusations from former colleagues who believe she played a significant role in the recent PLQ turmoil. In response, she defended her actions, asserting that she acted in the interest of integrity for herself and the party. Investigations are ongoing, including those led by the ethics commissioner and criminal inquiries by UPAC.

  • Ongoing investigations include:
  • Allegations of vote-buying during the last leadership race.
  • Claims of reimbursed political contributions.
  • Misuse of public funds for partisan activities.

The pressure from these revelations contributed to Pablo Rodriguez’s resignation as PLQ leader in December. This has necessitated a search for new leadership within the party, highlighting the significant challenges faced by the PLQ.

Rizqy remains committed to her professional values as a lawyer and justice officer, reinforcing her belief in the system’s integrity throughout this turbulent period.
