Winter Persists: March Weather Forecast Unveiled

March Weather Outlook

The weather in March is set to be highly variable. The first half of the month will bring a mild spell, accompanied by significant rainfall. However, winter is expected to make a return, plunging temperatures below freezing.

Temperature Trends

Early March will see cold temperatures, but a warm-up is anticipated within days. By the second week, temperatures are expected to rise above normal. Environment and Climate Change Canada indicated that this ephemeral warm spell will not last long.

As temperatures dip again, they will stabilize near seasonal norms across southern Quebec. The northern regions, however, will experience chillier conditions as March progresses. Notably, by the end of the month, the average daily maximum temperature typically exceeds freezing in southern Quebec.

Precipitation Forecast

  • Significant rainfall is expected, particularly in the southern regions.
  • Precipitation levels are projected to be well above normal for the first two weeks.
  • Rainfall will become less frequent towards the end of March.
  • The possibility of snowfall increases slightly towards the month’s conclusion.

Previous Month Recap: February

February was notably dry, characterized as “exceptionally dry” by federal meteorologists. The month recorded a substantial precipitation deficit compared to the previous year.

  • Montréal received only 0.2 mm of rain, drastically lower than the usual 16.9 mm.
  • Snowfall was also below average, with Gaspésie being the only area reporting nearly 10 cm over three days.
  • Many regions experienced minimal to no snow at all during February.

Temperature variations were minimal across the province, with occasional warm and cold spells. The end of February brought relatively mild conditions, especially in the extreme southern areas of Quebec.
