AS Roma Makes Significant Progress on New Stadium Project

The AS Roma football club is making significant progress on its new stadium project in the Pietralata area of Rome. Recently, the city council approved a proposal that acknowledges compliance with the feasibility study for the new venue, which is set to be a significant addition to the area.
Details of the New Stadium Project
The proposed stadium will cover an area of 27 hectares in Pietralata, with a seating capacity of 60,605. Notably, it will feature one of the largest stands in Europe, accommodating 23,000 fans. The project will incorporate multifunctional infrastructure and is designed to be active year-round.
Public Spaces and Amenities
- 11.6 hectares allocated for public green spaces
- 3.5 hectares for plazas and pedestrian pathways
- A museum spanning 1,600 square meters
- A fan store covering 1,800 square meters
- 30 retail outlets
- Hospitality and conference areas totaling 21,000 square meters
The architectural design will pay homage to ancient Rome while integrating distinctive elements of AS Roma, including the “Roma 1927” inscription and the club’s emblem on the main facades.
Urban Regeneration and Green Areas
This stadium project also emphasizes urban renewal. It includes two significant green areas: the stadium park and the central park. The stadium park, which will surround the sporting complex, will feature approximately 50,000 square meters of green space. The central park will cover 6.9 hectares and will provide recreational areas, cycling paths, and other amenities.
Mobility and Infrastructure Enhancements
A crucial aspect of the project is the mobility plan, which includes:
- Over 91,000 square meters of parking, with both underground and surface options
- Three bike stations
- Cycling and walking links to Tiburtina station
Investment and Next Steps
AS Roma has announced a total investment of over one billion euros, with approximately 696 million euros allocated for the stadium construction. Following the city council’s final approval, the project will proceed to the regional authorization process, which includes environmental impact assessments and public service discussions.
Mayor Roberto Gualtieri has highlighted the importance of this development for Rome, reaffirming its strategic significance for rejuvenating the Pietralata area. Urban planning assessor Maurizio Veloccia also underscored the swift progress of the initiative and the intention to expedite the council’s decision.
