Brenda Blethyn’s Channel 4 Drama Remake Confirms Release Date

A Woman of Substance: A Synopsis

The drama is based on the novel by Barbara Taylor Bradford. It follows the journey of Emma Harte, portrayed by Blethyn and Jessica Reynolds. Blethyn plays the older Emma in New York, while Reynolds depicts her younger self in Yorkshire during 1911.

The storyline depicts Emma as an ambitious maid who rises from poverty to become one of the world’s wealthiest women. The official synopsis states:

“A rags-to-riches tale of women through the 20th century, Emma defies societal expectations, challenges prescribed roles, and remains committed to her ultimate goal: achieve success at any cost.”
