UAE Confirms 2026 Eid Al Fitr Holiday for All Employees

The UAE has officially announced the Eid Al Fitr holiday for employees across federal and private sectors in 2026. This decision comes from the UAE Federal Authority for Government Human Resources and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.

Eid Al Fitr Holiday Dates 2026

For federal government employees, the holiday will commence on Thursday, March 19, 2026, and will last until Sunday, March 22, 2026. Work will resume on Monday, March 23, 2026.

Private sector employees will enjoy a slightly shorter break, from Thursday, March 19, 2026, to Saturday, March 21, 2026. However, if Ramadan lasts a full 30 days, the private sector holiday will extend through Sunday, March 22, 2026. This aligns with established holiday schedules in the UAE.

Maximizing Time Off

Employees can potentially extend their holiday break to nine days by taking annual leave. By requesting leave from Monday to Thursday, March 16-19, employees would enjoy a lengthy break from Saturday, March 14, through Sunday, March 22, including weekends and Eid holidays.

Moon-Sighting Procedure

The UAE moon-sighting committee will convene on the 29th day of Ramadan, which is March 18, 2026, to sight the crescent moon that heralds the beginning of Shawwal. If the moon is observed, Ramadan will conclude that evening. Conversely, if not sighted, Ramadan will extend to a 30-day fast, with Eid Al Fitr beginning on March 20, 2026.

Celebration Preparations

As Ramadan approaches its end, preparations for Eid Al Fitr are evident throughout the UAE. Tailors are ceasing new orders for festive clothing, while shops are restocking goods in anticipation of the holiday.

Key Dates Summary
